Marathons and half marathons are quite popular events for distance runners. Many people travel to other cities or states to compete in either full or half marathons every year.
The varying sceneries and course layouts of a marathon or half marathon are both visually appealing, as well as challenging, for the serious or even casual runner.
If you’ve got the bug like I have, you may be wondering, “What are the best half marathons in the US?” Well, there are a number of factors to consider when choosing which half marathons to run in any given running season.
Location and weather are big factors… as well as cost of entry, elevation challenges, and a number of others (such as travel costs) and time off work.
What is a Half-Marathon?
A half marathon is a long-distance race that is half the distance of a full marathon. It is approximately 13.1 miles in total.
A normal full marathon is 26.2 miles. Both require endurance, pacing ability, and a decent level of fitness and strength in order to complete them.
Some runners prefer half marathons over full marathons because of the mental and physical strain of running 26.2 miles. I’m sure you’ve heard of the term, “hitting a wall”.
Although you’ll clock less miles, a half marathon still gives runners a real sense of accomplishment. Running 13.1 miles is not a short, easy, run.
It’s something most runners still need to train for and work up to. Many half marathon runners train for weeks or months to be ready to run a half marathon.
If I still have your attention, let’s talk about 23 of the best half marathons in the US heading into 2025.
We’ve done the research so you don’t have to! And we’ve listed them from the ones taking place the soonest, down to the furthest ones out, so you have time to plan.
